The Problem We Solve:

A transformative approach to addressing hearing loss

Too many people in Maine are living with hearing aids that were never properly fit — or they gave up on them entirely after feeling rushed, unsupported, or unheard by their provider. That's not a technology problem. That's a care problem. And it's exactly why Riverside Hearing Care exists.

A modern process for today’s hearing aid user.

Our 3-step Renewal post-fitting program keeps you hearing clearly, comfortably and supported well beyond the first appointment — with routine follow-up, fine-tuning, retesting, counseling, and care that will optimize the performance and effectiveness of your hearing aids.

Research shows that using hearing aids has a positive impact on long term health and quality of life.

The evidence linking hearing aids to better cognitive health has never been stronger. Over a decade of research has established hearing loss as a major risk factor for dementia, and recent landmark studies show that treating it can make a meaningful difference. The ACHIEVE trial — a large NIH-funded randomized controlled study led by Dr. Frank Lin of Johns Hopkins University — found that adults at increased risk for dementia who received hearing aids experienced a nearly 50% reduction in cognitive decline over three years (Lin et al., The Lancet, 2023). A large cohort study of over 573,000 people further confirmed that dementia risk was significantly higher among those with untreated hearing loss (Cantuaria et al., 2024). Researchers believe hearing aids help by reducing the cognitive load of effortful listening and keeping people socially engaged — both proven protectors of brain health. Treating hearing loss isn't just about hearing better; it's an investment in your long-term cognitive health.

Ian Mishler, BC-HIS—Owner & Hearing Care Provider

For Ian Mishler, hearing care isn't just a profession — it's a family legacy. His grandfather, uncle, and father all dedicated their careers to helping people hear better, and Ian grew up watching firsthand the profound difference that compassionate, skilled hearing care can make in someone's life. That foundation shaped everything about how he practices today.

After more than a decade working with thousands of patients across midcoast Maine and his home state of California, Ian opened Riverside Hearing Care in 2026 with a clear purpose: to build a practice that does things the right way. That means taking the time to truly understand each patient, using evidence-based fitting protocols on every single appointment, and never letting corporate pressure or sales quotas get in the way of what's actually best for the person sitting across from him.

Ian is a licensed Hearing Instrument Specialist and is nationally Board-Certified in Hearing Instrument Sciences (BC-HIS) — a distinction that reflects the highest standard of knowledge and competency in the field. He brings that expertise to every evaluation, every fitting, and every follow-up visit.

At the heart of Ian's clinical approach is a commitment to best practices that are still far from standard in the industry. Every hearing aid fitting at Riverside Hearing Care includes Real Ear Measurement — a probe microphone verification process that confirms hearing aids are programmed precisely to each patient's individual ear and prescription — along with Electro-Acoustical Analysis to ensure devices are performing exactly as intended. These aren't optional add-ons. They're the foundation of care that actually works.

Ian lives in nearby Dresden with his wife Dr. Hannah Mishler and their daughter Phoebe. That connection to midcoast Maine isn't just geographic — it's personal. These are his neighbors, his community, and the people he is genuinely honored to serve.

Hear better with Riverside Hearing Care, today.
